How New Yorkers Can Bet on the World Cup
Every licensed New York sportsbook will price every World Cup match - pre-game and live - through the entire tournament. The same rules apply as for any other sport: you must be 21+ and physically located within New York state when placing the wager. Geolocation runs at session start and again every ~10 minutes during active play.
Betting at MetLife Stadium itself: mobile betting is permitted from inside the stadium since East Rutherford is in New Jersey, where mobile betting has been legal since 2018. Your account must be held with a NJ-licensed operator, or with a NY operator if you cross the river before placing the bet. Most NY books also operate in NJ with the same login but separate jurisdiction. For a full breakdown of NJ-licensed operators and which to use on match day, see our sister site bettinginnj.com.

Bet Types Beyond the Outright
The outright winner futures market gets the most attention, but several other markets offer better expected value pre-tournament:
Outright Winner
Pick the team that lifts the trophy on July 19, 2026. Pre-tournament odds available year-round; sharpest after the group-stage draw in late 2025.
Group Winner / Runner-Up
Pick which team finishes 1st or 2nd in their group. Lower variance than outright; settles after the third group fixture.
Stage of Elimination
Pick the round in which a specific team is eliminated. Pays well on dark horses you expect to overperform.
Top Goalscorer (Golden Boot)
Pick the tournament's leading goalscorer. Always a crowded market - pre-tournament favorites are usually +600 or longer.
Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper)
Best goalkeeper of the tournament, awarded by FIFA Technical Study Group. Less efficient market than Golden Boot.
Best Young Player
Best player aged 21 or under. 2022 winner: Enzo Fernández. Settles immediately after the Final.
