NFL Week 1 Recap: Giants, Jets & Bills All Win to Open the Season

New York's three NFL teams all opened the 2026 season with a win on Sunday, September 13, and each one is now 1-0. The Giants closed out the day under the lights at home, beating the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 on Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium. Earlier in the afternoon, the Jets won on the road at Tennessee 23-10, and the Bills won a high-scoring road game at Houston 36-31. Below is a recap of each result, plus an honest look back at the pre-game angle we flagged for each matchup and whether the directional read held up. New York Giants 28, Dallas Cowboys 20 (Sunday Night Football)

The Giants took the marquee slot and made it count, beating the Cowboys 28-20 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Sunday Night Football. It was an NFC East opener with real division stakes, and playing at home in prime time was exactly the spot the Giants used to set an early tone. The eight-point final kept it inside one score, in line with the way divisional openers between these two rivals tend to play out. The Giants are now 1-0.

How the angle held up. Our read was that division games between rosters that know each other well often land closer than the market's first instinct, so we pointed to the home side and a short number rather than laying a big price. The Giants winning outright by one score at home fits that directional call cleanly. We also floated a lean toward the under and toward first-half markets on the idea that prime-time openers start slow. We did not publish a number, so we are not claiming a graded total result, but a game that ended 28-20 was more open than a slow-and-low script, so treat that part of the read as a miss rather than a hit.

New York Jets 23, Tennessee Titans 10

The Jets opened on the road and passed the test, winning 23-10 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Road openers are a real challenge for a team trying to establish an identity, and the Jets answered by controlling the afternoon and keeping the Titans to a single-digit share of the scoring for most of the day. The 13-point margin was comfortable for a road opener. The Jets are now 1-0.

How the angle held up. We framed this as one of the more evenly matched games on the New York slate, closer to a coin flip than a mismatch, and pointed to shopping for the best number on whichever side you preferred. The Jets side was the correct directional call, though the two-score final suggests we undersold them by calling it a toss-up. We also flagged the total, reasoning that two offenses still finding their footing could produce a slower opener. A 33-point game is on the lower end, so that part of the read looks reasonable in hindsight, again without a published number to grade against.

Buffalo Bills 36, Houston Texans 31

The Bills also opened on the road and came out on top in the highest-scoring of New York's games, winning 36-31 at NRG Stadium in Houston. This was the toughest road draw of the three, and it turned into a shootout that stayed within one score at the finish. Buffalo's offense carried the day in a difficult environment against a Houston side that answered right back. The Bills are now 1-0.

How the angle held up. We noted that Buffalo would likely be favored but that road games against a quality opponent are where favorites get squeezed, and we said the over would be the more natural lean if the total climbed on the strength of both passing attacks. Both threads landed. The Bills won outright, so backing the Buffalo side was correct, and the five-point final shows the game was every bit the squeeze we flagged, so the caution about laying a big number was warranted too. The over lean fits a 67-point shootout, and the directional call on the Buffalo passing game reads well against a 36-point road performance.

What Week 1 Told Us for Betting Ahead

  • Respect the uncertainty paid off. Week 1 comes with the least information all season, and two of our three games (Jets and Bills) landed cleaner than the coin-flip framing suggested. Lean on process over confidence and keep stakes modest until the picture clears.
  • Shopping the number still matters. Early-season lines vary from book to book and move all week. Even on wins, a half-point or a better price changes the math, so keep comparing before you commit.
  • Totals were a mixed read. The lower-scoring Jets game fit the slow-opener logic, but the Giants and especially the Bills games ran hotter than a rust script, a reminder that strong passing matchups can flip the under lean.
  • Live betting stays useful. Once you saw how a team looked in the first quarter, the in-game markets offered a clearer read than any number posted days in advance, which was true across all three games.
  • Bet within a budget. A 3-0 Sunday for the local teams is fun, but treat every week as entertainment rather than a sure thing. Confirm every number in the FanDuel app before you commit.

Bottom Line

New York's Week 1 slate ran the full Sunday and ended in a sweep, with the Jets winning 23-10 at Tennessee and the Bills winning 36-31 at Houston in the early window, then the Giants beating Dallas 28-20 under the lights on Sunday Night Football. All three New York teams are 1-0. Looking back at our pre-game angles, the directional call on the winning side landed in every game, the Bills spot played out closest to how we described it, and the total reads were mixed as two of the three games ran hotter than a slow-opener script. Carry that into Week 2 with the same humility, shop for the best number, and keep your stakes in check. Confirm every number in the FanDuel app before you place a wager, and bet within a budget you have set in advance.
