World Cup Day 2: USA Demolishes Paraguay 4-1, Canada Draws Bosnia

The USMNT didn't just win its first home World Cup match since 1994 -- it put on a statement performance. Folarin Balogun scored twice before halftime, Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic forced an own goal in the 7th minute, and Giovanni Reyna sealed it with a stunning outside-of-the-boot strike late on. USA 4-1 Paraguay at SoFi Stadium was a statement opener for the hosts. Earlier in Toronto, Canada's historic first home World Cup match ended 1-1 with Bosnia-Herzegovina, with Cyle Larin rescuing a point in the 78th minute after Bosnia had taken the lead through Lukic.

USA 4-1 Paraguay: A Statement Opener

The Pulisic-McKennie combination had Paraguay's Damian Bobadilla turning into his own net as early as the 7th minute to open the scoring. Then came Balogun: first, Antonee Robinson drilled a deep ball to Pulisic who cut it back for Balogun to finish in the 31st, then Balogun completed his brace just before half-time to put USA 3-0 up at the break. The host nation had SoFi in a frenzy.

Paraguay pulled one back in the 73rd through substitute Mauricio, capitalizing on a brief lapse in USA's concentration, but that only set up Reyna's finish -- dispatching a perfectly placed strike with the outside of his right boot into the far post to restore the three-goal cushion. The final score: 4-1. The USMNT's first home World Cup win since 1994.

Betting Recap: USA-Paraguay

  • USA moneyline -102: ✅ WIN. The margin of victory was never in doubt after the 3-0 half-time scoreline.
  • USA + Under 2.5 SGP: ❌ LOSS. The under was gone by half-time -- USA's dominance in attack buried the under. Backing USA straight was the winning play.
  • Mexico + USA opening double: ✅ WIN. Both hosts delivered in their openers. The double that was priced at roughly +150 paid out.
  • Balogun anytime scorer: ✅ WIN. Balogun was the standout on the night with his two first-half goals.

Canada 1-1 Bosnia: History at BMO Field

Earlier in Toronto, the afternoon match gave Canadians their first taste of men's World Cup football on home soil. Bosnia-Herzegovina took the lead through Lukic and looked on course to stun the co-hosts. Cyle Larin -- Canada's all-time leading scorer -- had other plans, equalizing in the 78th minute to send BMO Field into delirium. Canada earned their first-ever point as a World Cup host, though they'll need a result in their next match to stay in contention to advance.

Betting Recap: Canada-Bosnia

  • Canada -120: ❌ LOSS. Bosnia defended well and took the lead; Canada couldn't find a winner.
  • Draw +250: ✅ WIN. The draw was always in play in a tight opening match on neutral turf; those who backed the draw were rewarded.
  • Bosnia +350: ❌ LOSS (led, then equalized). Bosnia were unlucky not to hold on for the upset.
  • Cyle Larin anytime scorer: ✅ WIN for anyone who backed Canada's all-time leading scorer to deliver on his home WC debut.
